1. Fort Necessity Battlegrounds

The battlegrounds are open from sunrise to sunset. The visitor center and tavern have separate business hours that can be found here.

Fort Necessity was the start of the French and Indian War. Walk back in time and explore the battleground and fort. Stop by the visitor center where you can hear and see the story of Fort Necessity, with interactive elements for the kids. There is a gift shop and restroom in the visitor center. There is also a playground which is currently closed due to Covid.

2. Hutchison Park

65 Reservoir Rd, Uniontown, PA 15401

Enjoy a day with the family. Hutchison Park has a playground, with special needs swings, and a large sandbox perfect for the kids. You can eat lunch or get out of the weather at the pavilions dotted around the park (as long as they are not rented.) There are also stroller-friendly walking trails and multiple baseball fields. Hutchison is a hub of activity in the summer but can be enjoyed during any season.

3. Dunlap Creek Park

788 New Salem Rd

If you like fishing, boating or views of water this one is for you. Dunlap Creek has a 50 acre lake used for boating and fishing. Eat lunch and relax in one of the picnic shelters (as long as it's not in use.) There is also a playground available.

4. Sheepskin Trail

The Sheepskin Trail is a project trail in Fayette County that is approximately 34 miles long. With some parts open and points of interest like the Point Marion mural, covered bridge and restored coke oven it's a great place with history to explore and enjoy.

5. Areford Park

Areford Park boasts one of the most modern playgrounds in Southwestern, PA. There are also pavilions, tennis courts, all purpose fields and a half mile path.
